Christopher Bell’s gaffe is probably the funniest moment of this silly season so far. Before this weekend’s race in Loudon, New Hampshire, Bell accidentally revealed a little-known secret that Chase Briscoe was moving to Joe Gibbs Racing to replace Martin Truex Jr.
The team had decided to hold off on an announcement to avoid fueling speculation, but Bell’s gaffe put an end to the flood of speculation. The news spread like wildfire, and reactions soon flooded in.
But of all the reactions, Kyle Larson’s humorous response certainly caught everyone’s attention. Larson wrote on his X account: “I wish @chaseelliott all the best in his new adventure with @JoeGibbsRacing. It was fun having you as a teammate! Good luck #d19.”
The HMS star tried to help Bell cover up his failure, naming his teammate Chase Elliott as the next JGR star. But honestly, the damage is already done and Bell is probably getting a lecture from team boss Joe Gibbs right this second. Larson’s response was,

One user tried to suggest a similar confusion by bringing up the Kyle Busch angle and also dropping hints about a return to HMS. “Kyle, are you staying in the 8th division next season?” To be honest, Larson keeps himself away from unnecessary drama and social media activity.
But this incident led him to troll the entire NASCAR community. While it was just humor, some fans online took Larson’s comment almost seriously. “I almost believed it but I was almost disappointed “
Nascarcasm is someone who often comes up with such cheeky replies to X on the Internet. A few fans there tried to check if he had taken over Larson’s X account and posted on Larson’s behalf. “I don’t know if this is really @KyleLarsonRacin or if @nascarcasm hacked Larson’s X account. :p”.
Another fan pointed out that the dire situation could have been avoided if Christopher Bell had given the name Elliot instead of Chase. “Bell should have said that later.” Speaking of Larson’s own jokes aimed at him, one answer in particular stood out to me: “You betrayed yourself. You really want to be Denny’s teammate.” This also refers to the Rowdy rumor that he wants to return to JGR. But unfortunately, it’s Chase Briscoe who will be taking over the No. 19 JGR team.
It will be interesting to see if Chase Elliott responds to this joke. According to his teammates, if he found out he would be joining JGR for the 2025 season without knowing the latest news, he would have a pretty strong reaction.
