Breaking: Jerry Jones unexpectedly let slip Dallas Cowboys plans in second round of NFL draft during press conference

Will Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announce his team’s plans for Friday’s second round of the NFL draft?

It certainly looks like it.

Jones met with the media after Thursday’s first game, when the team selected Oklahoma tackle Tyler Guyton, and revealed that the Cowboys’ second target was Texas Longhorns running back Jonathan Brooks.

“I think this is the best interview I’ve had with a player in 30 years,” Jones said of Brooks. “He’s doing a great job. He’s a great player. We took him high, high, high and he’s a good player. Someone to think about the next day.”

Dallas is poised to take a step back after 2023 starter Tony Pollard signed a three-year, $24 million free agent deal with the Tennessee Titans. Brooks, a Texan native, rushed for 1,139 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Longhorns in 2023.

Fans Can’t Believe Jerry Jones Would Openly Tip the NFL Draft

This scares several teams. However, it appears that Dallas is not one of them. But fans weren’t happy that Jones was showing his hand so openly.Dallas moved from pick 24 to pick 29 in the first round, adding an additional third-round pick from the Detroit Lions. Now it appears the Cowboys will have to use that same pick to move up and take Brooks in the second round, unless he sticks around until their second selection at No. 56 overall. If not, it’s probably not the worst thing for the organization. Dallas desperately needs help at several positions on both sides of the ball. And while running back is the most glaring need, it’s one that can typically be filled with picks later in the draft.
