“What are you doing here?”: Chase Elliott drag Kevin Harvick racing at Five Flags Speedway

BbbFormer NASCAR Cup Series champions Kevin Harvick and Chase Elliott will race side-by-side tomorrow at Five Flags Speedway. Noted journalist Matt Weaver recently interviewed Elliott on the subject. The Hendrick Motorsports icon will drive the No. 9 FR8 Racing Chevy, sponsored by Hendrickcars.com and the Chase Elliott Store.

Just before the interview, Kevin Harvick came up to say hello to Elliott. Like Elliott, Harvick will also be driving a Chevrolet. The Dawsonville native jokingly asked the former Ford driver what a CARS Tour enthusiast like Harvick was doing at an ASA Southern Super Series race. The 2020 Cup Series champion recounted the hilarious encounter:

“He came down a little while ago and says, ‘Hey,’ and I said, ‘What are you doing here?’ It’s really great to have him here and it’s nice to see how much fun he’s having.”

Kevin Harvick has 60 NASCAR Cup Series victories over more than 20 years in the NASCAR arena. The veteran racer retired from full-time racing last year to join NASCAR big names like Clint Bowyer and Mike Joy as an analyst for FOX Sports. “He’s put in a lot of time with the Cup team, and it’s hard to do that for 20 years or so,” Elliott said of Harvick’s career in the NASCAR Cup Series. “We’re very fortunate to have the job we have, but there are definitely some tough days. He’s lasted that long. (I) have a lot of respect for that.

Chase Elliott is currently tied with Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson with 620 points. In 18 races this season, Elliott has one win, seven top-five finishes and nine top-10 finishes. He led a total of 178 laps.

Chase Elliott feels humbled by late-model races

Besides being one of the most popular names in NASCAR, Chase Elliott is a two-time Snowball Derby winner. However, Elliott feels that racing in the Southern Super Series is quite different from racing in the 300-lap annual late-model stock car race.

On that note, Elliott told Weaver in the previous interview,

“They’ve always had little bit of a different vibe to me…coming to places like this, it has such great competition you just got such a true check as to where you are as a driver.”

“I’m thankful for that, because I think you need places like that to humble you when you can be humbled and also to teach you lessons that you need to be taught to have any type of chance down the road,” he add

Chase Elliott has been racing Late Models more frequently than before. As reported by Racing America, the NASCAR driver competed in the ASA STARS National Tour at New Smyrna Speedway and Hickory Motor Speedway earlier this year. Chase Elliott last appeared at the Five Flags Speedway during the 53rd Snowball Derby in 2020, where he finished third. This year’s race will be streamed live exclusively on Racing America starting Friday, June 28th at 8pm EST.
