Corey Lajoie found himself upside down and wedged between two cars when the final lap of a NASCAR Cup Series race at the Talladega, Alabama, superspeedway ended in disaster. However, he managed to cross the finish line due to a shocking rollover accident. Lajoie, driving the No. 7 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports, entered the tri-oval from the outside line back into the eighth car. The field scattered and spun in all directions when Michael McDowell missed a double block and crashed from the front to take the win.
Rajoy missed McDowell, who came off the line and chased Todd Gilliland through the smoke. Unfortunately, he was pushed into the wreckage when Carson Josevar and Ryan Preece tangled with him. Rajoy’s car was wedged between Stewart-Haas Racing’s Josh Berry and Preece. The car clipped into the left rear of Berry’s car, lifting both cars off the ground.
Rajoy’s car swerved and actually remained wedged between the SHR cars for several seconds. Berry’s car was quickly put back on wheels, but Rajoy wasn’t so lucky. The race remained blue as the first runners charged toward the finish line. The car then turned sideways again and hit the wall, with the driver’s door falling onto the tracks. Nevertheless, thanks to Lajoie’s teammate Josevard, he maintained his forward momentum and continued to stay on the wall.
The two cars crossed the finish line intertwined, but Lajoie’s car remained against the wall. At this point, the caution was lifted and Lajoie was classified in 18th place.
The ordeal finally came to an end when the two Spire Motorsports Chevrolets separated after the checkered flag, with the No. 7 car doing a complete flip and finally stopping its wheels. The entire incident lasted about 15 seconds and Lajoie was not injured. This was the first plane crash of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season.

The next thing I knew, the door to my left was on the ground, with lots of sparks flying out. Then it rolled on the roof, then on the flat ground, and then slid across the start-finish line. ”
When asked how he was feeling, Rajoy said: “My back is a little tight, but it’s probably hurt my pride more than anything because I wanted to come here and have a fun day and I didn’t.” he admitted.
