“That’s a choice too” – Kenny Wallace takes a veiled dig at Chase Elliott amid Kyle Larson’s Issues

“It’s a choice” – Kenny Wallace subtly mocks Chase Elliott in light of Kyle Larson’s issues

With Kyle Larson’s waiver hanging in the balance, former NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace indirectly criticized Chase Elliott. The Chevrolet driver, ranked fifth in the Cup Series, is pretty unlikely to make the playoffs given that he missed the Coca-Cola 600.

Larson made his debut at the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 26, becoming the fifth driver to attempt an Indy-Charlotte double. However, the bad weather did not favor the Arrow McLaren IndyCar driver.

The Indy 500 started with a four-hour delay, and Larson’s race ended 20 minutes after the start of the Cup Series’ Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Kyle Larson returned to Charlotte and prepared to race for the remaining 151 laps, but officials canceled the race due to the track gradually drying out from the bad weather and high humidity.

This prevented the HMS driver from competing in any regular season races, jeopardizing his chances at the playoffs. According to NASCAR rules, a driver must compete in at least all 26 regular season races to be eligible for the playoffs. However, with certain exceptions, exemptions are in place to prevent drivers from being stripped of a potential championship through no fault of their own.

Some NASCAR officials in the community felt that since it was Kyle Larson’s decision to choose the Indy 500 over the Coca-Cola 600, he should not have received an exemption.

Kenny Wallace, who has been eyeing the recent furore surrounding the 31-year-old, cleverly poked fun at Chase Elliott’s 2023 snowboarding incident while criticizing NASCAR’s “vague” exemption policy. “Press conference with (details of) a new exemption from @NASCAR perhaps? Because it’s vague.

But they will grant an exemption to @KyleLarsonRacin. He’ll then have to suffer a physical injury to qualify for the exemption. Skiing is also an option. I could go on like this forever,” Wallace wrote in X. NASCAR granted Chase Elliott a medical exemption and allowed him to qualify for the playoffs after he was in a terrible snowboarding accident during his time off last season that left him with a broken left tibia. The accident caused the No. 9 Chevrolet driver to miss six Cup Series races.
