Retired NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick set to return to racing this week

NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick will compete in a zMAX CARS Tour doubleheader at North Wilkesboro Speedway on August 3. Harvick is a co-owner of the grassroots series along with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and NASCAR veterans Jeff Burton and Justin Marks.

Kevin Harvick, the 2014 Cup Series champion, has had a stellar career in stock car racing. He has competed in more than 800 Cup races and won 60 times in NASCAR’s top division, including the legendary Daytona 500. Harvick was also the Cup Series regular season champion in 2020. His skills also extended to the Busch Series (now Xfinity), where he won two championship titles and solidified his status as a formidable motorsports athlete.

Earlier this month, Harvick participated in a five-hour test session at North Wilkesboro Speedway along with 20 other CARS Tour drivers. After the test, speculation emerged that he could participate in the CARS Tour race. It was confirmed that Harvick will drive the No. 62 Hunt Brothers Pizza Chevrolet in the Window World 125 Late Model Stock Car event.

Below is a post confirming his participation via Speedway Digest on X (formerly Twitter):

“Kevin Harvick is ready to race Saturday at the Window World 125. Kevin Harvick is ready to get behind the wheel.”

Harvick began his racing career in the Late Model Stock Series, then moved up to the Truck Series and eventually NASCAR’s top division. Fans are looking forward to the first race in 48 years at North Wilkesboro Speedway (NWS). The North Wilkesboro doubleheader weekend was originally scheduled for May 15 but was postponed due to inclement weather and the NASCAR All-Star Race. Kevin Harvick and Earnhardt Jr. have been co-owners of the zMAX CARS Tour Series since 2023 and have been actively involved in its improvement.

Kevin Harvick expresses his views on NWS after a five-hour test session

Kevin Harvick drove the No. 62 car during a test session at NWS earlier this month. Harvick said that while he hasn’t raced the zMAX Tour regularly, he has raced there once at North Wilkesboro.

After the grueling test session, Harvick shared his thoughts on the 0.625-mile oval track in an interview with FloRacing. “From a driver’s perspective, the key for me is getting used to these cars. I raced a car here once, but that was the only time I raced a car in the Late Model Stock division. So I think that’s really the most important thing, getting used to the grip levels and the yawl and everything that comes with a Late Model Stock.” “Just staying involved with the team as we continue to develop the team, what we need to do, what we need to work on and things like that.

I had a really good day and I’m looking forward to race week.” When Harvick returns to the Late Models, the former Cup Series champion is looking to have a memorable weekend.
