NASCAR surprisingly respond to Kyle Larson waiver, comments on timetable for decision

According to Jenna Fryer of the Associated Press, NASCAR has confirmed that Hendrick Motorsports has applied for an exemption for Kyle Larson. Larson is looking to remain eligible for the NASCAR playoffs after missing the start of Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600.

He had to fly to Charlotte, but his arrival was delayed after competing in the Indianapolis 500. The race itself was delayed due to weather conditions.

Fryer also reported on the timeline for a decision, saying nothing has been decided at this time. “UPDATE: #NASCAR has confirmed it has received Hendrick Motorsports’ exemption request for Larson and said there is no timeline for when a decision will be made,” Fryer said through X. Justin Allgaier was originally going to drive Larson’s No. 5 car in the Coca-Cola 600.

Larson thought he would make it to the track in time for the race. However, at the exact moment the change was made, the red flag was waved and the car was covered. The Coca-Cola 600 was ultimately canceled, and Larson missed the race and missed the playoffs. Hendrick Motorsports therefore applied for an exemption.

Kyle Larson reflects on Indianapolis 500 experience

Kyle Larson has enjoyed preparing for the Indy 500 and is ready to take on the challenge again in the near future. The NASCAR star appeared at the Indy 500 victory celebration this week and was asked about his experience at the Indy 500 last month.

“The experience over the last few weeks has been unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before,” Larson said. “I’ve been able to compete in a lot of big races, most of them here in the U.S., but just the atmosphere over the last two weeks, from the first day on the track on Tuesday to the huge crowds that were there waiting despite the rain delays yesterday, it’s been amazing.” “The fan support has been incredible for me. I really felt like I was the favorite from day one.” It meant a lot to me and my family to have them on board for the full two weeks, and it was great to have Rick Hendrick join us yesterday. I just wish the whole plan had gone a little better.”

Larson had hoped to race the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. However, because both races were delayed by weather, Larson was only able to race the Indy 500, meaning he’ll have to wait another year to make racing history.
