NASCAR Silly Season Update: Josh Berry expected to be announced by Wood Brothers Racing tomorrow

Josh Berry is set to join Wood Brother Racing for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season, motorsports reporter Jordan Bianchi reported. The team is currently under a charter agreement with Harrison Burton.

Berry is currently in his first season racing full-time in the Cup Series with Stewart-Haas Racing. However, he will not be eligible for the 2025 season, as SHR previously announced that it would cease operations with the series at the end of this season. Finding a spot for the 2025 season was always going to be difficult for Josh Berry, given his lack of experience racing in the Cup Series. He also only competed in the Xfinity Series for two seasons.

However, according to NASCAR reporter Jordan Bianchi, Wood Brothers Racing, which currently has a charter contract with Harrison Burton, will sign Berry. “Wood Brothers Racing will announce their drivers for the 2025 season tomorrow at 11am ET. Sources tell @TheAthletic that Josh Berry is in the process of finalizing a contract with the team,” he wrote in x.

Rodney Childers “hopes” to work with Josh Berry in the future

Rodney Childers is currently Berry’s crew chief. As a driver himself, Childers recently expressed concern about Berry’s uncertain future in the Cup Series. Speaking to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Childers explained that he is a big supporter of Josh Berry and that the two have a mutual respect.

No official announcement has been made yet about the driver’s future, but he expressed a desire to continue working together. “I’ve been very supportive of him and, to be honest, he’s been very supportive of me and I think that’s why he’s done so well. “We have a lot of respect for each other,” Childers said. “I want to be with him, but I’m not sure if that’s possible.

We both have a lot going on and it seems to change every two hours and it’s hard to navigate. Some days it’s as chaotic as can be and other days it’s very simple,” he added. Berry has yet to win the series, but has previously placed third at Darlington and New Hampshire, and he also finished in the top 10 at two other events, Charlotte and Iowa.
