NASCAR fans are buzzing with reactions to the announcement that Dale Jr.’s driver, Carson Hocevar, won’t be back at JRM in 2025, with many calling for Sam Mayer to take his place.

Reports have surfaced suggesting that Sam Mayer is unlikely to return to JR Motorsports for the upcoming season, stirring considerable discussion among fans and analysts alike. With Connor Zilisch poised to take the wheel of the No. 88 car, the dynamics within JR Motorsports are shifting, leading to increased speculation about the future of the current drivers on the team.

Recently, it was officially announced that Zilisch, an 18-year-old rising star, will compete in four Xfinity Series races for JR Motorsports in 2024 before stepping into a full-time role in the No. 88 car the following year. Zilisch has already made a significant impact in the racing world, having won all three of his ARCA Menards Series races this season and achieving victory in four out of six ARCA East races. His impressive track record has not only garnered attention but also raised questions about the future of other drivers at JR Motorsports, particularly Mayer.

Currently, Mayer is behind the wheel of the No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for JR Motorsports. Since joining the team in 2022, he has established himself as a formidable competitor, securing two wins along with 10 top-10 finishes and 7 top-5 finishes this season alone. His accomplishments include being a two-time East Series champion, which further solidifies his reputation in the sport.

In light of the recent developments, fans have taken to social media to voice their opinions and speculate on Mayer’s next steps. Some have suggested that he might transition to a Cup Series ride, potentially with teams like Front Row Motorsports or Spire Motorsports. One fan even expressed a desire for Mayer to take over the seat currently held by Carson Hocevar, indicating that there is a strong interest in seeing Mayer continue his career at a higher level.

As the situation unfolds, the future of Sam Mayer and the overall lineup at JR Motorsports remains uncertain. With only four full-time positions available per team in the Xfinity Series, the pressure is mounting for drivers like Mayer to secure their spots and continue their racing careers. The coming months will be crucial in determining how these changes will impact the team and its drivers, as well as the broader landscape of NASCAR racing.

One fan expressed their wish, saying, “I hope Sam Mayer takes Carson Hocevar’s place.”

Another chimed in, “It would be great if he could team up with LaJanitor.”

However, many fans were left puzzled. “Is he really moving to Cup for FRM?” one questioned. Another added, “I don’t understand this at all unless he’s getting a Cup ride. He’s won several races over the past two years, so if it’s not a Cup opportunity, it just doesn’t make sense.” A third fan remarked, “Wow, this is a real shocker if he’s not going to FRM or Spire…”

Carson Hocevar recently celebrated his victory at the Battle at the Berlin 250. Currently, he competes in the NASCAR Cup Series for Spire Motorsports, driving the No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Previously, he was part of the Drivers Edge Development program. This week, Hocevar triumphed at the Berlin Raceway, defeating Cup Series competitor Erik Jones and Super Late Model standout Bubba Pollard. At just 21 years old, this marked Hocevar’s first win at such a significant event, which also featured the largest cash prize of the year at the venue—$40,000. Following a challenging season, including a $50,000 fine and a loss of 25 points due to an incident with Harrison Burton, this victory was a much-needed boost for Hocevar.
