Jerry Jones’ Brief Contract Update Infuriates CeeDee Lamb

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Thursday that he has no plans to re-sign CeeDee Lamb.

Jones said, “I have no urgency to do it,” as reported by Jon Machota of The Athletic.

In a quick reaction on social media, Lamb, who is currently awaiting a new contract, addressed Jones. Additionally, Lamb changed the word “America’s Team” in his X biography to “Eights.”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said in late July that the two sides are “getting closer” to a new contract, though things are clearly at a standstill. If Lamb and Dallas do not reach an agreement before the start of the regular season, Lamb will play for the remaining $17.991 million on his rookie contract.

In the midst of his best season to date, in which he led the league in receptions (135), recorded the second-best yards (1,749) and the third-most touchdowns (12), Lamb expressed his desire to a new contract. The Cowboys have a lot to consider this season in terms of player compensation, but this season certainly deserves a big payday. In addition to Lamb, MVP-caliber quarterback Dak Prescott is nearing the end of his contract. Given that quarterbacks like Trevor Lawrence, Jordan Love and Tua Tagovailoa have received contract extensions worth more than $50 million per year, Prescott could be eligible for a historic new contract.

Maybe Jones isn’t worried about Lamb’s deal closing quickly because of Prescott’s upcoming contract, but if the Cowboys don’t make their leading receiver happy, they won’t have him next year.
