“I think it’s a major fail” – Kevin Harvick slams Chase Briscoe’s sponsor blunder after announcing JGR move

Kevin Harvick posted a photo of himself wearing a T-shirt with a Toyota logo and addressed the Chase Briscoe controversy. He was recently announced as Martin Truex Jr.’s replacement at the team for 2025.

After signing a contract with Joe Gibbs Racing for 2025, Briscoe posted a photo on social media wearing his future team’s T-shirt. It prominently featured the logo of future sponsor Bass Pro Shops, but interestingly, also had the Toyota logo in the top right. Chase Briscoe will be driving a Toyota next season, but has never driven the No. 14 Ford currently with Stewart-Haas Racing. When Kevin Harvick discussed the issue on his podcast of the same name, he said it was a “big mistake” by Briscoe. He then added an example of when SHR signed Josh Berry and how the process worked.

“I think it was a big mistake that Chase wore the Toyota logo while kitted out,” Harvick said (0:40). “When Josh Berry announced he was coming to Stewart-Haas, that was definitely… we decided to make sure he had the Stewart-Haas logo and that was it, and we worked with Junior Motorsports to make sure they were coming to Stewart-Haas. Whatever happened was fine. “Things have changed a little bit now that he’s leaving a team that is now closing down, but I still believe he doesn’t want to upset the Edsel Fords of the world.”

“In these situations, people can be frustrated” – Kevin Harvick reasons Chase Briscoe’s “mistake” of wearing Toyota T-shirt

Chase Briscoe is currently in his fourth season in the Cup Series. He has run in championships for Stewart-Haas Racing throughout his career, achieving a career-best finish of ninth place in 2022. However, the team previously announced its decision to discontinue its Cup Series operations after this season, which came as a surprise to the driver.

Briscoe, who is driving the No. 14 Ford with more than 15 laps remaining to complete this season, was wearing a Toyota T-shirt, which Kevin Harvick pointed out as a “mistake.” However, he explained that a person can be “frustrated” in that situation.

Kevin Harvick said in the aforementioned podcast (1:20):

“I know that in a situation like this, people can be frustrated and put in a situation that they’re not happy with. I’m very excited about what I’m going to do next.”

“But he’s still a Ford driver, he’s still with the Ford team, so I think it’s definitely a mistake for him to wear that Toyota logo before the season is over. And I think Chase Brisco definitely missed a few things in doing that and putting that logo on his shirt,” he added.
