Austin Dillon criticized Joey Logano after the Team Penske driver attempted a pit stunt following the end of the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway. The RCR driver said Logano endangered the safety of his child with his aggressive behavior outside the RCR garage.
Logano attempted a mini-burnout in the pits shortly after the end of Sunday’s race. He was apparently unhappy with the way things were going for him in the last lap of the race. On the last lap of NASCAR extras, Dillon cut into the lane, cut Logano to the right and sent him spinning. In doing so, the former fought his way to victory and completely compromised the race of the latter. The Penske driver after losing the victory at the last moment, decided to show his frustration in front of the RCR garage.
“The only thing that upset me about Joey was when he got there, my wife and the child started to cross, and he started the engine right in front of my son, Johnny Morris and these people,” said Austin Dillon (via on3. com). “I understand you must be angry and upset, but do an interview or tell me. You have to be careful in the pit lane with this kind of thing. »
While Logano received his fair share of criticism for his actions, Dillon’s tactics drew a lot of criticism from fans and pundits alike. Even current and former leaders have criticized the No. 3 driver for his controversial move. Notably, Logano wasn’t the only one to fall prey to Austin Dillon’s aggressive tactics. Denny Hamlin, who had a good chance to win the race at Richmond, also made contact with the #3 car and hit the wall at high speed.
NASCAR noted Joey Logano’s post-race activity prior to Austin Dillon’s comment
Joey Logano’s post-race attack in the pit lane did not go unnoticed. Elton Sawyer, NASCAR’s vice president of racing, revealed that NASCAR is aware of the incident and will take appropriate action over time.
“We don’t want to make a split second decision and be wrong,” Sawyer said in the post-race interview. “So we want to make sure we go back and look at everything that happened in the last lap and after the race and see if we need to give penalties.”
Joey Logano’s action raised a safety issue for NASCAR because the Team Penske driver was awfully close to the Richard Childress Racing garage. It will be interesting to see if NASCAR finds Logano guilty and punishes him for his actions.
