Erik Jones’ future in NASCAR Cup Series receives a big update for 2025

Erik Jones and the Legacy Motor Club continue to grow every week, but their results for the 2024 NASCAR season have not been good. Jones is 27th in the points standings, while John Hunter Nemechek is 31st.

After a tough debut season with Toyota, things are starting to get better. But will the driver of the No. 43 car be part of this development? Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports “thinks” Jones will remain with the Legacy Motor Club, even though he still does not have a contract for the 2025 NASCAR season.

The former Joe Gibbs Racing driver was rumored to replace Martin Truex Jr. in the No. 19 Cup car, but Chase Briscoe took the spot. Now, there aren’t many landing spots for Jones in 2025. Therefore, it makes sense for Jones to return to the No. 43 car with Nemechek for the 2025 NASCAR season.

With Nemechek under contract for next year, all that’s left for Legacy Motor Club to do is sign Jones. Both drivers have great potential to win the NASCAR Cup Series, but their equipment needs further refinement.

Legacy Motor Club ‘unlikely’ to sign this rising NASCAR star for 2025

Legacy Motor Club has one of two spots secured for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season with its contract with John Hunter Nemechek. However, Erik Jones is likely to return but is out of contract.

The NASCAR organization has been gradually improving, but Jones is not locked in yet. If he leaves, the rising NASCAR star is not expected to take over the No. 43 car. According to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports, it is “unlikely” that Legacy Motor Club will sign Corey Heim when the No. 43 car becomes available in 2025.

Heim is reportedly eyeing a spot with 23XI Racing in the coming years. The Tricon Garage driver was the Legacy Motor Club’s backup driver and made two starts in the No. 43 car while Jones was recovering from a back injury. Heim will likely return to the NASCAR Truck Series in 2025 or move to the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

The Truck Series driver has had a remarkable run in the No. 11 Toyota, winning five of 15 races. Legacy Motor Club would like Jones to stay in the No. 43 car, but if he leaves, a return home probably won’t be an option.
