Toto Wolff has revealed that Lewis Hamilton has changed his mind about joining Ferrari

Toto Wolff has revealed that Lewis Hamilton has changed his mind about joining Ferrari. The champion recently announced his move to the Scuderia and is set to make his debut alongside Charles Leclerc in 2025.

Mercedes has been uncompetitive since the rule changes for 2022 and Hamilton hasn’t won a race since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

In addition, rivals McLaren and Ferrari have been closing in on Red Bull this season, raising hopes that there will be a title fight next season.

Did Hamilton make the right decision to move to Ferrari? But Mercedes remains outside the leading group, with Hamilton and George Russell lamenting their position as “no man’s land”. With the Italian team continuing to close the gap on Red Bull with Leclerc’s stunning win in Monaco, Hamilton’s move to Ferrari may have been well timed.

But Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said he didn’t see Hamilton’s decision coming and made it clear in a recent interview that he expects the seven-time world champion to stay with the team.

“He said he would stay, then he decided to leave,” Wolff told the PA news agency. “But people change their minds, situations change, so you have to respect that.

What’s an opinion today may change tomorrow, but I have nothing against it.”

The team boss also weighed in on Hamilton’s chances at Ferrari and whether he could win his elusive eighth world title at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. “If Ferrari can provide Lewis with a competitive car, he can become world champion. There is no doubt about that. “I will continue to have a personal relationship with Lewis and look back on great times, both publicly and privately. “If Lewis moves to Ferrari, he will be a competitor, but I always wish him the best of luck.”
