Report: The Cowboy make a very wrong decision as they set to Trade Dak Prescott for Huge Draft Haul Amid Contract Stalemate

Cowboys will never have someone like Dallas. Of course this is a hypothesis. That’s a guess. And it’s out of left field. Still, it makes sense given the Cowboys’ situation this offseason, so it’s worth at least considering: In the proposed trade, USA Today’s Cowboys page would see Dallas trade their star quarterback to the Raiders.

They’re asking for a trade to get a sizable package. Let the Cowboys dig deep into their rebuild. The package in question? Well, that’s based on what the Lions got in exchange for him when they traded Matthew Stafford to the Rams in the Jared Goff trade. The Cowboys will return Aidan O’Connell, who was a rookie last season and took over the starting role midway through the season. They will also receive the Raiders’ 13th pick in the second round (44th overall) and fourth round (112th overall) in this year’s draft.

They would then acquire the Raiders’ first and third round picks in 2025 and a second round pick in 2026. That’s six picks, five of which will come in the first three rounds. Prescott would be difficult to trade, but the Cowboys have made little effort to re-sign Prescott, who is in the final year of his contract. If the plan is to let him become a free agent next offseason, why not trade him now for a blockbuster deal?

Raiders’ Aidan O’Connell Worth a Shot?

Author K.D.’s logic is as follows. Drummond said as he left Duck. “If Dallas doesn’t sign Prescott to an extension, why don’t they just keep him for one season and not receive third-round compensation until 2026 (the pick is not guaranteed)” Dallas If O’Connell doesn’t select a QB in this draft, O’Connell will have to compete with Trey Lance for the QB1 position in training camp. ”

Now, O’Connell had a lot to offer for the Raiders last season, but he also showed some serious weaknesses. He is an accurate passer and has leadership qualities as a rookie. He also holds the ball too long and lacks mobility too often. O’Connell went 5-5 as a starter and threw for 2,218 yards, or 201.6 yards per game, despite being sacked 24 times. Over the past four games, the Raiders are 3-1 with O’Connell throwing eight touchdowns and zero interceptions. His quarterback rating in those games was 98.4, clearly showing that he improved towards the end of the season.

Cowboys & Dak Prescott: No Progress on an Extension

But of course, Prescott’s departure isn’t about bringing in O’Connell, it’s about a fresh start for a Cowboys team that has been a huge disappointment in the postseason, most recently losing 48-32 to the Packers in January. In fact, Cowboys Wire is proposing the team trade both Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, the team’s other key signee. His deal adds a first- and third-round pick here in 2024, giving the team a full pick to begin their rebuild now.

Prescott is currently still under contract with Dallas, and it appears the team plans to let him play out the final year of his contract for a whopping $59 million before moving on from there. He also has a no-trade clause, which he will likely waive if he leaves for another organization that offers him a new long-term contract. But things are at a stalemate for the Cowboys and their star quarterback. As reported by NFL.com, “The Cowboys and Prescott have agreed to make no adjustments to his contract at the start of the 2024 season, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday. Regarding the plan. According to a person briefed on the matter.”

The Cowboys are clearly considering cleaning out their roster via trade if 2024 doesn’t go as expected. However, if that’s the case, it might be better to do it now when the value of trade goods is high.
