During the first episode of her Unapologetically Angel podcast, which aired Thursday, Reese revealed some of the hate she’s received from people she described as Clark fans, including racism and death threats.
Reese was careful to absolve Clark of any responsibility for the hate the Chicago Sky superstar received, saying he didn’t believe the Indiana product “based on any of that.”
Angel Reese says there’s no hate between herself and fellow rookie superstar Caitlin Clark — but some of Clark’s fans have crossed a line over their perceived rivalry.
During the premiere episode of her podcast “Unapologetically Angel,” released Thursday, Reese revealed some of the hate she’s been getting from people she described as fans of Clark which included racism and death threats.
Reese made sure to absolve Clark of blame for any of the hate the Chicago Sky superstar has been getting, saying that she didn’t believe the Indiana product “stands on any of that.”
Angel Reese cleared Caitlin Clark of any wrongdoing, but pointed the finger at her fans for her hateful posts. “I think it’s really just the fans. Her fans, the Iowa fans, now the Indiana fans, who say, they’re riding for her and I respect that,” Reese said. “But sometimes it’s very disrespectful. I think there’s a lot of racism in this area and I don’t think it stops at that, but when it comes to death threats – I’m talking about the people who come to my address, they follow me to my house. This has come up on several occasions where people have had the AI take pictures of me naked.” Reese said people had sent these explicit AI-generated images to family members, which led them to contact him.
The controversy over Clark and Reese has been a major talking point in the WNBA and dates back to when the two women were at the University of Iowa and LSU, respectively. Although the two tried to avoid fanning the flames of the rivalry that both said was fueled by fans and the media, that didn’t stop Reese’s performances and sports experts said during the one-hour episode. Clark “is an incredible player and I’ve always thought she’s an incredible player.”
