49ers give surprising condition for George Odum $10M two-year extension

The 49ers locked up one of their most important special teams players. San Francisco has agreed to a two-year contract extension with safety George Odum, according to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero. Pelissero said the deal is worth up to $10 million. Odum, 30, has been with the 49ers for the past two seasons.

He was already under contract for the 2024 season. He earned All-Pro Second Team honors in 2022 for his work on special teams. In 11 games in 2023, Odum totaled 12 tackles, played 196 special teams snaps and 37 defensive snaps. After entering the league as an undrafted free agent out of Central Arkansas, Odum spent his first four seasons with the Colts. He signed with the 49ers as a free agent in March 2022.

The 49ers have agreed to a two-year, $10 million contract extension with Odum, who was originally with NBC Sports Bay Area, according to his agent. Looking ahead to the season, the 49ers have signed veteran safety and special teams ace George Odum to a two-year contract extension, sources confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area. Odum signed a three-year, $9.5 million contract with the 49ers in March 2022 and is currently signed through the 2025 NFL season.

He recorded a career-best 21 tackles on special teams and was named second-team All-Pro after his first season with the 49ers. Odum will likely begin the 2024 offseason as a replacement for likely starters Talanoa Hufanga and Ziair Brown. Hufanga will return from a torn cruciate ligament suffered in November 2023. Odum, 30, missed six games last season with a torn bicep. He returned from surgery and appeared in all three postseason games. The 30-year-old safety remains tied for the 49ers lead with 10 tackles on special teams, along with tight end Charlie Warner.

The 49ers signed Odum to a three-year contract in 2022 after spending his first four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. He was selected to the 2020 All-Pro team for his work on special teams. In 2021, he started seven games at safety for the Colts. Odum entered the NFL in 2018 as an undrafted rookie out of Central Arkansas.
