Denny Hamlin criticized NASCAR for delaying its decision to issue a penalty to Austin Dillon for a two-car wreck before winning the Cook Out 400 at Richmond. Hamlin was one of the drivers affected by Dillon’s aggressive maneuver.
Hamlin drives Toyota no. 11 for Joe Gibbs Racing, who competes full-time in the Cup Series. During his 20-year NASCAR career, Hamlin won 74 races in all of his divisions. Of the 74 wins he has, 54 have come in the Cup Series. However, the Virginia native has yet to win the championship title. Pilot no. 3 of RCR, Austin Dillon crashed into the back of the no. 22 by Logano, spinning him and sending him into the wall just short of the finish line.
However, chaos ensued when Hamlin tried to pass the no. Dillon’s 3 on the inside line. Dillon made contact with Hamlin’s car, sending him into the wall as well, giving him the win. NASCAR is currently reviewing the incident and has not yet decided to penalize Austin Dillon for his aggressive action that gave him the win. On a recent episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, Denny Hamlin expressed his frustration with NASCAR. This is what he said:
“If they can umpire the CARS tournament, where they don’t have the technology that we have, you don’t even need the technology to use your brain. That’s my problem with this, is that someone” someone with legitimate sense tells me “. Yes, it was just a racing incident where the #3 accidentally spun with the #22 until (Logano) spun as his team.
Hamlin has three Cup wins this season, the last coming in the Würth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway. He also took first place at Richmond in the spring race, but failed to make a clean sweep of the tarmac this season. The No. 11 driver, currently fourth in the driver standings, is 21 points behind leader Kyle Larson.
Denny Hamlin raises disturbing questions about sanctions amid Richmond controversy
Hamlin’s near-perfect season took a hit at Richmond, where he found himself enduring a controversial finish.
In a recent episode of the Dirty Mo Media podcast, the 43-year-old read the NASCAR rules and regulations regarding the grounds that can be assessed a penalty. The reading was followed by Hamlin raising relevant questions about the applicability of these rules to the Cook Out 400 incident he asked (via Dirty Mo Media’s Instagram):
“If they (NASCAR) don’t decide today, they don’t decide tomorrow, then tell me what’s unacceptable? You tell yourself that you can do whatever you want on the race track and that ‘there will be no penalties at all?’ How can you take us seriously? »
23XI Racing co-owner Hamlin also expressed his concern as a team owner and said the delay did not sit well with him..
