Kyle Busch and his fans would likely prefer to erase the memories of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season. With no victories and no playoff appearance, it was a year to forget. However, the Clash at Bowman Gray, despite being an exhibition race, offers a chance for a fresh beginning for the two-time champion and his fellow drivers.
On Saturday night, competitors hit the quarter-mile track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for the first time in 2025, participating in practice, qualifying, and heat races in preparation for Sunday’s main event. Driving the No. 8 car for Richard Childress Racing, Busch secured the 29th spot in qualifying and lined up on the outside of Row 4 for Heat 1. Determined to move up in the 25-lap race, his progress was hindered on Lap 6 when an incident with Justin Haley and Noah Gragson resulted in Gragson spinning and bringing out a caution.
Unfortunately, Busch’s troubles didn’t end there. Just two laps after the restart, the No. 7 Spire Motorsports driver got into the back of Busch’s car, eventually spinning him around. Frustrated, Busch voiced his anger over the team radio.

“He never gave me one (expletive) corner,” Busch fumed.
Spotter Derek Kneeland acknowledged the situation but urged patience.
“Oh, I’m aware,” Kneeland responded. “I have plenty to say, but I’m trying to turn over a new leaf.”
Despite his frustration, Busch didn’t back off. He proceeded to drive up to the No. 7 car and ride its bumper around the track, prompting another warning from his spotter.
“Just stay off him here,” Kneeland advised. “Give it to him when you need it, when it matters.”
Busch remained aggressive, prompting NASCAR officials to step in.
“Alright, we’re getting a warning,” Kneeland informed him. “And they said this is the last one. Come off the bumper.”
Busch, still irritated, responded sarcastically.
“So, it’s okay to do it under green. Got it,” he said.
Despite the setbacks, Busch managed to finish fourth in his heat race, securing a spot in Sunday’s Cook Out Clash. The race is set to begin at 8:00 p.m. ET and will be televised on Fox. Fans can also listen to the broadcast on the Motor Racing Network or SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
