Trackhouse Racing team owner Justin Marks has assured fans that Project91 will return to NASCAR. The initiative, designed to give international racing stars a chance to compete in the Cup Series through one-off appearances, previously featured drivers like F1 champion Kimi Raikkonen, who made two starts, and Supercars legend Shane Van Gisbergen, who won on the Streets of Chicago in his 2023 debut.
Van Gisbergen’s success ultimately paved the way for him to join NASCAR full-time, with plans to race in the Cup Series in 2025 following a strong showing in the Xfinity Series in 2024.
Although Project91 did not have any entries last season, Marks explained during the Race Industry Week webinar that the program remains a priority. “Project91 is definitely not dead,” Marks said. “I’d expect to see it back on track sooner rather than later.” He highlighted Van Gisbergen’s transition as a milestone for the program, calling him the first “graduate” of Project91 and praising his full-time commitment to NASCAR, including his decision to move to the United States.
Marks also shared that interest in Project91 is strong, with top drivers from around the world expressing enthusiasm for participating. The lack of entries in 2024 was due to the team’s packed schedule, including preparing a third car for Van Gisbergen and assisting his efforts with Kaulig Racing. However, with the team refocusing on its three full-time cars in 2025, Marks is confident that Project91 will soon make its return.
