Tony Stewart Quietly Attracts IndyCar’s Elite as Racing World Supports Unexpected Appointment by Sume.

When one chapter ends, another begins, and Tony Stewart ensured that the next chapter was filled with promise. In May, the United States Auto Club (USAC) series faced a heartbreaking tragedy, revealing several challenges. However, as Eldora Speedway navigated through this difficult time with the help of dedicated officials, Stewart quietly devised a plan to bring in a prominent figure from IndyCar. This individual was set to return to his roots, and what could be more fitting than appointing a seven-time USAC champion to lead the World’s Greatest Dirt Track? Fans rallied behind this choice, even though it was announced with little fanfare.

Tony Stewart revitalizing Eldora’s leadership

In May, the passing of Eldora general manager Jerry Gappens Jr. left a profound impact, creating a void filled with both sorrow and a legacy of success. With less than two weeks to prepare for the Dirt Late Model Dream, interim manager Jonathan Bateman adeptly handled the challenges that arose. Meanwhile, track owner Tony Stewart was quietly working to find Gappens’ successor. Over three months after the tragedy, Stewart revealed his decision.

Levi Jones, who had been serving as the director of Indy NXT by Firestone, the developmental series leading to the prestigious NTT IndyCar Series, was called back to his dirt racing origins by Stewart. Eldora Speedway announced the news on X, stating, “Levi Jones has been appointed as the new General Manager of Eldora Speedway! The championship-winning USAC driver and seasoned motorsports professional was just introduced on stage during tonight’s World 100 pre-race show.”

In addition to his impressive tenure at the pinnacle of IndyCar, Levi Jones has also made significant contributions to USAC’s national series. He boasts an impressive record of 35 feature race victories across various disciplines, including Sprint Car, Midget, and Silver Crown, along with seven championships to his name. Remarkably, all but the 2005 title were secured while racing for Tony Stewart Racing. This background led Stewart to highlight Jones’ exceptional value: “As general manager, he brings a unique blend of a racer’s insight and outstanding managerial and promotional skills, honed through his experiences at USAC and IndyCar. Our fans and competitors can rest assured that Eldora is in capable hands, just as it has always been.”

Fans are in full support of Tony Stewart’s choice, celebrating the new leadership at Eldora.

The motorsport community embraces the new leadership

Tony Stewart is a decorated figure in various racing circuits, with 49 wins and three championships in the NASCAR Cup Series, a 1996-97 championship, and three victories in IndyCar, along with two USAC championships. Given his extensive credentials, motorsport enthusiasts are quick to back his decisions, rallying around his choice. One fan expressed their enthusiasm, stating: “Congratulations to @levijones_1, @HeidiJones31 & family! Perfect selection @TonyStewart.”

A fan expressed their admiration for both Stewart and Jones, extending heartfelt wishes for their success. “I think Levi is an excellent choice and will excel in his role! Best of luck!”

Levi’s impressive background certainly backs up that sentiment. Prior to his arrival at IndyCar in October 2021, Jones enjoyed a vibrant seven-year career with USAC. He began as the national series competition director from 2015 to 2019 and then advanced to executive vice president from 2019 to 2021. Another supporter joined in with a congratulatory note. “Congrats, Levi!”

Established in 1954, Eldora Speedway is a cherished venue for racing enthusiasts. This half-mile dirt oval is a sanctuary for grassroots racing, and fans are eager for the best stewardship. One fan, upon hearing about Levi Jones’ new position, optimistically asked, “Does this mean improved track preparation?” Another voiced a desire for better compensation, advocating for a higher salary for sprint racing at the iconic venue. “Fantastic news! I’m adding a six-figure payout for USAC sprint cars at the Big E to my wishlist.”

With all these encouraging messages, it’s clear that Tony Stewart and his new track official are poised to make a significant impact at Eldora Speedway. We’ll be watching closely to see how they perform at the 4-Crown Nationals event on September 20-21st.
