Harrison Burton’s recent victory at Daytona has become a significant milestone in his NASCAR career, marking his first Cup Series triumph. His fiancée, Jenna Petty, shared her thoughts on the win, reflecting on the challenges they’ve faced over the past three years.
Burton, driving the #21 car for Wood Brothers Racing, secured the win by holding off veteran driver Kyle Busch in an intense overtime finish. This victory in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway was a pivotal moment in Burton’s career, as it was his 98th race in the Cup Series since he began racing at this level three years ago. The win not only qualified him for the 2024 playoffs but also marked the 100th Cup Series victory for the historic Wood Brothers Racing team.
However, the journey to this victory was far from easy. Jenna Petty, in an interview with Claire B. Lang, opened up about the struggles Burton has faced throughout his career, particularly over the last three years. She highlighted the emotional toll these challenges have taken on him and how they worked together to build his confidence despite the setbacks.
“There’s so many things that you don’t see us go through at the racetrack these past three years, and going into this [race], he was so confident,” Petty said during the interview. She described how difficult it has been to watch Burton’s confidence waver as he faced numerous challenges, but also noted their continuous efforts to maintain a positive mindset. “We worked on, trying to instill in him [confidence] week by week.”
Petty, a 22-year-old North Carolina native, has been a steadfast supporter of Burton throughout their relationship. Her background as a professional dancer with Dance Productions – The Remix reflects her dedication and discipline, qualities that have undoubtedly helped her support Burton through the ups and downs of his racing career. The couple has been together since 2017, recently taking their relationship to the next level by getting engaged in March 2024.
Reflecting on their journey, Petty emphasized the importance of being there for each other through both successes and hardships. “We are hard workers at heart, and we have always celebrated each other’s successes and been there for each other’s hardest times,” Petty said in an interview with NASCAR.com. She expressed how meaningful it was to share this monumental win with Burton after everything they’ve been through together.
With Burton’s playoff spot now secured, his regular season standing is less of a concern. Currently sitting in 34th place with 306 points, Burton’s season has been a mix of highs and lows. Besides his victory at Daytona, he has also achieved one top 5 and two top 10 finishes, though he has also faced four DNFs (Did Not Finish).
As Burton prepares for the playoffs, this win at Daytona serves as a turning point, symbolizing not only his personal perseverance but also the unwavering support of those closest to him, particularly his fiancée Jenna Petty. Their shared journey through the challenges of racing underscores the depth of their partnership, making this victory all the more meaningful for both of them.
