Noah Gragson, driver for Stewart-Haas Racing, recently took a humorous dig at Tony Stewart’s team as it faces closure after the 2024 season. During a series of lighthearted commercials featuring Gragson and his teammates, he made a witty remark about the team’s shutdown, instantly grabbing fans’ attention. His playful jab was a clear reflection of the current state of Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), and it added a layer of humor to what’s otherwise a bittersweet moment in NASCAR.
On May 28, SHR officially announced their decision to cease operations after the 2024 Cup Series season. The team’s shutdown was influenced by several factors, the most notable being the retirement of Kevin Harvick after the 2023 season. Harvick, a championship-winning driver, had long been a key figure for SHR, and his departure also led to the exit of major sponsors like Busch Light, Hunt Brothers Pizza, and Rheem. Without Harvick or a similarly accomplished driver to fill the void, sponsorship interest dwindled, forcing SHR into an unfortunate position.
As part of the funny commercials filmed before the Talladega race, Noah Gragson, along with teammates Ryan Preece and Josh Berry, threw around some entertaining lines to promote their remaining sponsors. Gragson seized the moment, delivering a memorable quip: “Hi NASCAR teams, if you’re going to steal a sponsor, steal ours – we’re shutting down.” His comment highlighted the reality that the team was winding down, but with a touch of humor that kept the mood light.
Despite the shutdown, Gene Haas, co-owner of SHR, will retain one charter for the Haas Factory Team, where Cole Custer will be behind the wheel. As for the rest of the drivers, many have already secured new opportunities for the 2025 season. Chase Briscoe is joining Joe Gibbs Racing, while Josh Berry, currently in his rookie year, will move to Wood Brothers Racing. Gragson, who joined SHR after a stint with Legacy Motor Club, has signed a multi-year contract with Front Row Motorsports, reuniting with Todd Gilliland. Meanwhile, Ryan Preece’s future remains uncertain, though he may land a spot with RFK Racing, which is planning to expand to a three-car team.
