In December 2023, NASCAR finalized a $7.7 billion media rights deal with Amazon, TNT, and Warner Brothers. This agreement has already drawn Dale Earnhardt Jr. back to the booth for five races under Amazon and TNT Sports. Speculation is now rising about whether Edwards will follow suit.
The idea isn’t far-fetched. Edwards briefly returned to the spotlight in 2023 when he was honored as one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers. He also joined FOX Sports for race coverage at Darlington Raceway alongside Mike Joy and Clint Bowyer, where his commentary skills impressed fans. Journalist Jenna Fryer recently revealed that Edwards has expressed interest in television work, hinting at a possible role in Amazon’s booth for 2025.
However, Amazon has already announced its broadcasting team, which includes Dale Earnhardt Jr., Steve Letarte, and Adam Alexander. While no fourth member has been confirmed, the possibility of Edwards joining remains open. Given his natural enthusiasm in the Darlington booth, his involvement would be a major boost to the broadcast team.
Reflecting on his experience in the booth, Edwards shared that he thoroughly enjoyed calling the race alongside Bowyer and Joy. He acknowledged that while he has no official plans yet, he is more open to the idea of returning to NASCAR in this capacity.
Edwards’ recent interest in NASCAR marks a shift from his initial departure. When he stepped away, many believed it was due to his 2016 championship heartbreak. However, Edwards insisted he simply wanted a clean break from racing to spend more time with his family in Missouri. Since leaving the sport, he has pursued other passions, including sailing. Over the past three years, he built a boat and plans to sail around the world with his family.
