Team Penske’s Joey Logano has secured his third NASCAR Cup Series championship, joining an elite group of drivers who have achieved this feat.
NASCAR Cup Series Championship:
Joey Logano claims victory Four drivers entered the season finale with a shot at the championship: Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, Tyler Reddick, and William Byron. The highest finisher among them at Phoenix Raceway would win the title.Logano started the race in the best position of the championship contenders, lining up in second. His strong start put him in the lead and secured a Stage 1 victory. However, at the beginning of Stage 2, a misstep during a pit stop forced Logano to fight his way back up. His right-front tire changer had a mishap, and then his front jack man suddenly became ill.
The team quickly replaced the jack man with one from Austin Cindric’s No. 2 Penske crew. Although this setback didn’t cost Logano many spots, it did shift momentum to his Penske teammate Ryan Blaney for much of the race. Late in the race, a caution and a poor restart for Blaney allowed William Byron to take the lead briefly before Logano reclaimed it. Blaney’s late charge fell short, and Logano maintained his lead to the finish, earning his third NASCAR Cup Series championship. His previous championships came in 2018 and 2022.
