Kyle Larson, who just won his third victory at the Knoxville Nationals, declared himself a better driver than Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen. In a press conference after the race, Larson stated that although he could not win in a Formula 1 car, he believed he could surpass Verstappen in other racing disciplines.
He added that Verstappen could not win in a Sprint car or in NASCAR. “I know in my heart that I’m better than him as an all-around driver… There’s no way he (Verstappen) is going to get in a Sprint car and win the Knoxville Nationals. There’s no way he’s going to win the Chili Bowl. There’s no chance he’s going to win a Cup race in Bristol,” said the 32-year-old. “Maybe there is no chance to win a Formula 1 race in Monaco, but I think I have a better chance to beat him just because of the element of the car… That’s what gives me ease and faith, as i know i am better than him.
Maybe not in an IndyCar single seater or a Formula 1 car, but it’s a discipline. I think I beat him in everything else,” he added. Larson’s confidence comes from his success in different types of racing. He won the NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2021 and excelled in several dirt track events. , including Kings Royal, Knoxville Nationals and Chili Bowl Nationals.
