NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson has addressed whether a switch to drag racing could be in his future—and his answer might surprise some fans.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver, currently piloting the No. 5 car, is enjoying an impressive 2025 season. So far, he’s collected two Cup Series victories, including a dominant performance at Bristol Motor Speedway in the Food City 500. There, Larson put on a clinic, leading a staggering 411 of the 500 laps—proving once again why he’s regarded as one of the most versatile talents in motorsports. His weekend was nearly perfect, only falling short of a sweep after finishing second in the Truck Series race.
While Larson was making headlines in NASCAR, another familiar name was making waves in a completely different world. Three-time Cup champion Tony Stewart grabbed his first-ever NHRA Top Fuel win on the same weekend, shifting attention toward drag racing. With Stewart’s impressive leap into the straight-line racing world, it didn’t take long for questions to surface about whether Larson might be next.

Speaking on the Stacking Pennies podcast with Corey LaJoie, Larson gave a candid response when asked about the possibility of stepping into a dragster. “I don’t know. It’s not on the table currently. No, I don’t think so,” he said. Though he’s passionate about dirt racing and even co-owns his own dirt racing series, Larson made it clear that drag racing isn’t something he’s considering at the moment.
However, he didn’t rule it out forever. “I’m only 32, though!” he joked. “I feel like that’s what people do when they turn 50. It’s like, ‘Oh, let’s go 300-something miles per hour—that’s a great time in my life to do that.’ Maybe once I turn 50 and get old like [Stewart], I’ll change my mind.”
While Larson may not be eyeing drag strips anytime soon, he’s far from idle. Even without a Cup Series race this weekend, he’ll still be competing. Larson is scheduled to race in the Silva Motorsports No. 57 sprint car during the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday—further proving his commitment to dirt racing and his relentless drive to compete.
