Kyle Busch Opens Up On Future After Teasing NASCAR Exit

Kyle Busch has shared insights about the future of the NASCAR Cup Series as his son, Brexton, progresses in his racing career. At 39, Busch, a NASCAR legend with 63 Cup Series victories and numerous Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series wins, has hinted at a potential retirement to focus on his son’s development.

Busch experienced a tough 2024 season, failing to win a race and missing the playoffs for the first time in 18 years. Despite this, his legacy as one of NASCAR’s greats remains intact.

Meanwhile, Brexton Busch, just 9 years old, is already showcasing his racing talent. Since starting his career in 2020, he has excelled in the Beginner Box Stock division, accumulating 32 wins across 13 tracks. Brexton has also competed in high-profile events like the Chili Bowl Nationals, where he raced alongside his father.

Kyle has expressed his intention to shift his priorities toward supporting Brexton’s racing journey. In a 2023 interview, he discussed his plans:
“In a perfect world, I’d retire from Cup racing when Brexton turns 15 and spend a year in the Truck Series. When he’s 16, we could share the Truck, with him racing shorter tracks while I take on the bigger ones.”

During the 2024 Chili Bowl Nationals, Kyle expanded on his future plans:
“I’m working on finding weekday races that fit Brexton’s schedule, which is now the priority over mine. We’re blending dirt and pavement racing to prepare him for any path he chooses. Drivers like Kyle Larson excel in both, so this variety can open doors. When he turns 16, we’ll decide whether to stick with dirt racing—sprint cars, modifieds, or late models—or transition to NASCAR, which is currently the goal.”

In an exclusive 2024 interview with Newsweek Sports, Kyle reflected on Brexton’s promising career:
“My dad was a racer, I’m a racer, and now Brexton’s continuing the family legacy. He’s enjoying racing, winning often, and it’s been amazing to watch his growth. Just last weekend, while I was racing in Las Vegas, he was competing in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Thankfully, technology makes it easy to stay connected.”

Busch’s focus on Brexton highlights the family’s commitment to building a lasting racing dynasty while navigating a transition from his illustrious career.
