Kaulig Racing has revealed that Shane van Gisbergen will take the wheel of the #13 WeatherTech Chevrolet in the upcoming Charlotte Roval race this Sunday. The announcement was made through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), marking another appearance for van Gisbergen with the Welcome-based team. This race will be part of NASCAR’s Round of 12 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where four drivers will face elimination. However, this pressure doesn’t extend to Van Gisbergen or Kaulig Racing, as neither has qualified for the playoffs this season.
Van Gisbergen, who typically drives the #16 Chevrolet in his part-time NASCAR Cup Series entries for Kaulig Racing, is switching gears for this event. Kaulig Racing has opted to move AJ Allmendinger to the #16 car for the weekend, leaving Van Gisbergen to pilot the #13 WeatherTech Chevrolet. Known for his prowess on road courses, this will be another opportunity for him to shine in a trophy hunt. Kaulig Racing shared their excitement by posting, “Another road course. Another Kaulig entry. Another trophy hunt! SVG will pilot the No. 13 @WeatherTech Chevy this weekend at The ROVAL!”
In terms of the team dynamics, Travis Mack, the crew chief for Kaulig’s #16 car, will be working with van Gisbergen on the #13 car for this race, while Andrew Dickeson will handle crew chief duties for Allmendinger on the #16. This reshuffling could provide both drivers with an advantage on the track, leveraging the team’s expertise in these new setups.
Both van Gisbergen and Allmendinger competed at Talladega last weekend, finishing 15th and 28th respectively, in a switch-up that now has them trading cars for the Roval race.
Additionally, van Gisbergen has secured a full-time seat in the Cup Series next year with Trackhouse Racing, and WeatherTech has signed on as a sponsor for his #88 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The partnership between WeatherTech and van Gisbergen continues to grow, with the company also backing Trackhouse’s Connor Zilisch in the Xfinity Series. These developments highlight WeatherTech’s strong commitment to van Gisbergen’s racing future, as well as their growing presence in NASCAR.
