Jon Edwards, a respected figure in NASCAR communications, passed away on Thursday at the age of 52. He spent much of his career working closely with Jeff Gordon as his longtime PR representative beginning in 1994. Later, he joined Hendrick Motorsports, representing Kyle Larson before being promoted in 2022 to the role of director of communications for the team.
“Jon meant a great deal to me,” said Kyle Larson on Friday. “Since 2021, we’ve spent a lot of time together, even gone on a couple of vacations. He was probably the person I saw the most on the 5 team. I’ll really miss him. He had an incredible career with Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports.
“It’s a tough week for everyone in the sport. We’ll honor his memory by doing what he’d want — staying strong and racing hard. Jon was a joyful person, and we want to carry that spirit forward.”
Jeff Gordon also shared heartfelt words: “I’m heartbroken over the loss of my dear friend, Jon. We spent nearly 30 years together through every triumph and setback. His loyalty, dedication, and selflessness were unmatched. I’ll always be thankful for the impact he had on both my life and my career. My thoughts are with his loved ones — he was truly one of a kind.”
FOX on NASCAR paid tribute as well, noting, “For more than three decades, Jon was a cornerstone in the NASCAR world — a teammate, a true professional, and a friend. Mike Joy reflects on his legacy.”
Fans have also expressed their grief and admiration for Jon online:
“My heart aches. Jon was always there to support and mentor others. Brilliant, funny, and kind — he was truly one of the most remarkable people I’ve ever known,” one fan wrote. “Latta and I will always love you, Jon.”
Another added, “I’m struggling to make sense of this. Jon and I entered the NASCAR world together and shared so many moments — laughs, disagreements, and everything in between. His love for racing was unmatched.”
Our deepest condolences go out to Jon Edwards’ family and all who knew and loved him during this difficult time.
