William Byron and Daytona International Speedway President Frank Kelleher celebrated Byron’s Daytona 500 victory by lifting the trophy in Victory Lane on Monday night, February 19, 2024.
In preparation for the 2025 Daytona 500, NASCAR Cup Series drivers will benefit from an additional 50-minute pre-qualifying practice session. Scheduled for the morning of February 12, this practice will kick off the events leading up to the 67th running of the “Great American Race,” set for February 16.
Cup Series Director Brad Moran explained the rationale for this added session, noting its value for rookie drivers and new driver-team combinations. “The Daytona 500 is the biggest race of the NASCAR season and also our first event. We believe this extra practice time will be beneficial,” Moran said in a news release on Thursday. “It’s an opportunity for drivers to get familiar with the track, fine-tune their cars, and prepare for qualifying. Additionally, it offers fans more action and helps set the tone for an exciting week of racing.”
