After a slow start to the season, Clark and the Fever made their move to the WNBA before the 2024 Olympics break.
The WNBA has been on hiatus for almost a month, and many of the league’s stars participated in the women’s basketball tournament at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, which ended on Sunday. Caitlin Clark, of course, was not among them, as she was left off the US team roster after USWBNT coach Cheryl Reeve prioritized experience over youth.
When will Caitlin Clark next play in the WNBA?
As a result, the 22-year-old has not been seen in action since July 18, when his Indiana Fever lost 101-93 to the Dallas Wings. But Clark and the Fever now prepare for their return to action, a home game against the Phoenix Mercury on Friday, Aug. 16 (7:30 p.m. ET). After an incredibly slow start to the season, Indiana got back on track heading into the Olympic break. And one man has more reason than most to hope that continues when the WNBA resumes.
What bet did Portnoy make on Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever?
Barstool Sports founder and noted pizza critic Dave Portnoy placed a $100,000 bet on Clark and the Fever to win the WNBA Finals at the end of the season at odds of 100/1 (10,000). If that happens, Portnoy could earn $10.1 million
Portnoy’s support for Clark isn’t a huge surprise, as he has previously spoken of his admiration for the former Iowa Hawkeye guard and publicly criticized the decision to leave him off the Olympic team. The Fever lost 10 games and won just three of the first 13 games of the season, but they were on a streak of eight wins and five losses in 13 games before the Olympic break. An 11-15 overall record leaves Indiana seventh overall, with the top eight qualifying for the 2024 WNBA playoffs.
