NASCAR driver Corey LaJoie’s future has been in doubt since Spire Motorsports announced his departure. However, recent insider information hints at possible developments. During the Olympic break, Spire revealed they would part ways with LaJoie, who drives the #7 Chevrolet. At 32 and a third-generation racer, LaJoie has faced a tough season, failing to secure a top-ten finish in all 23 races. Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports hinted at a possible future for LaJoie, suggesting a swap with Justin Haley of Rick Ware Racing, which might keep LaJoie in the Cup Series.
Initially, it was believed LaJoie would leave Spire at the end of the season, but Pockrass’s post hints at a potential swap involving Haley, the current driver of Rick Ware’s #51 Ford. This deal might allow LaJoie to remain in the Cup Series and avoid moving to the Xfinity or Truck Series. Despite his season’s struggles, LaJoie recently achieved a top-ten finish at Watkins Glen. Heading into the Bristol Night Race, LaJoie ranks 28th in the driver standings, with Haley sitting 32nd.
Reflecting on the Watkins Glen race, LaJoie admitted to a costly mistake in a multi-car accident on the first lap. Starting from 18th, LaJoie collided with RCR’s #8 Chevy, causing several wrecks, including one that severely damaged Ryan Blaney’s car. Speaking on his podcast, LaJoie acknowledged his error, explaining he misjudged the situation, despite intending not to disrupt anyone’s race. He also joked about the ongoing bad luck between his #7 and the #8 cars.
Meanwhile, Chris Buescher of RFK Racing claimed victory at Watkins Glen after a competitive battle with road-course specialist Shane van Gisbergen, marking Buescher’s first win of the 2024 season.
