Chase Briscoe Exposes Tony Stewart Plan After SHR NASCAR Closure

Chase Briscoe is preparing for a significant shift in the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series as he transitions from Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) to Joe Gibbs Racing. SHR, the team where Briscoe established himself in NASCAR, announced its closure after the 2024 season. This move leaves Briscoe without a ride, creating an opportunity for him to take over Martin Truex Jr.’s seat at Joe Gibbs Racing.

For Briscoe, leaving SHR represents more than just a team change. Tony Stewart, the legendary NASCAR figure and SHR co-owner, has been both a mentor and a personal hero. During his appearance on the ‘Dinner with Racers’ podcast, Briscoe expressed his admiration for Stewart, recalling how he was captivated by Stewart’s ability to compete in both NASCAR and sprint car racing. Briscoe explained:

“I was always a die-hard Tony fan because this guy I could watch on TV on Sunday and then he’d come back and race a Sprint car or Midget at our local track. It was crazy to me. The fact that someone I watched on TV would race at my home track was amazing. That’s always been my draw to Tony since I was young.”

Briscoe also reveres his grandfather, Richard Briscoe, a sprint car racing legend whose career took a dramatic turn after a tragedy. Following the death of his best friend in a race, Richard transitioned from being a driver to a team owner. Under his ownership, his team achieved over 500 wins and helped field cars for more than 13 National Sprint Car Hall of Famers. Briscoe shared:

“So, my grandpa bought a Sprint car and decided to race. But on his second night, his best friend was killed. He thought, ‘I don’t know if this is the right thing for our family,’ but because he loved racing, he continued. He became a very successful owner, with over 500 wins…”
