Carl Edwards responds to Kyle Larson’s offer for NASCAR Cup Series return

Kyle Larson has expressed interest in seeing NASCAR legend Carl Edwards take the wheel of his No. 5 car for the All-Star Race practice and qualifying session. Edwards, who was recently inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, has not ruled out the possibility of accepting the offer.

Larson is once again attempting to complete “The Double” this year, which involves competing in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. His attempt last year was disrupted by weather, and this time, his participation in the Indy 500 could again force him to miss the practice and qualifying rounds for the NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro.

Last season, when Larson faced a similar situation, retired driver Kevin Harvick stepped in to drive his Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 car. This year, Larson has a different name in mind—Carl Edwards.

Speaking to FOX Sports, Larson revealed that he has not directly spoken to Edwards about the opportunity but is eager to see him behind the wheel. “I’ve not talked to him, and you can put this out there. He’s probably not going to see it anyway, but I would love to have Carl Edwards do it,” Larson said.

He added that he has briefly mentioned the idea to Jeff Gordon and crew chief Cliff Daniels, but no formal discussions have taken place. Despite that, he remains enthusiastic about the possibility. “That’s who I would pick. I think it would make a huge splash in the sport and be great,” he stated.

Larson also made a direct appeal to Edwards, urging him to take on the role. “Carl, if you happen to see this, please jump in the No. 5 car. We want you,” he said.
