Baseball Hall of Famer Chipper Jones didn’t hold back after NASCAR Champion Joey Logano harshly criticized his teammate and eventual race winner, Austin Cindric, during Sunday’s race at Talladega.
Jones, who retired from Major League Baseball in 2012, shared his reaction on X after the race. He congratulated Cindric on ending his winless streak, which had lasted over 30 races. At the same time, Jones called out Logano for his mid-race outburst aimed at Cindric.
The phrase “MFed u on national TV” referred to Logano’s furious radio rant after Stage 2, where he blamed Cindric for allowing Bubba Wallace to win the stage. Logano was heard telling his team, “Way to go Austin, way to go, you dumb fuck! Way to fucking go. What a stupid shit. You just gave it to him. Gave a Toyota a stage win. Nice job.”
Logano’s comments quickly spread across social media, with many fans amused by his fiery reaction. However, Jones took a different view, criticizing Logano for showing poor sportsmanship toward his teammate. Jones, a former champion himself, suggested that Logano’s behavior showed he was too focused on himself — an opinion shared by some NASCAR fans.
Responding to a fan, Jones noted that Logano should have been aware that his radio communications were public, saying, “He knows he’s mic’ed up. And he can’t say whatever he wants. Nobody can without consequences.” Jones also expressed his disappointment that Logano didn’t congratulate Cindric during post-race interviews, calling it another example of bad sportsmanship.
Jones’ remarks caught the attention of not only fans but also key figures in NASCAR. Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. even reacted, saying, “Holy shit Chipper.” Jones continued to celebrate the turn of events, especially after Logano’s post-race disqualification, adding, “My day just keeps getting better!”
Chipper Jones’ candid reaction added another layer of drama to what was already an eventful day at Talladega.
