After ‘Double’ Disappointment, Kyle Larson Discloses Plans for a Grand Return to SVG’s Racing Roots

Kyle Larson stands as a testament to dedication and excellence in modern NASCAR. Since beginning his racing career at the age of 14, Larson has competed in a variety of formats, from Go Karts to NASCAR’s ARCA Menards Series and K&N Pro Series, consistently demonstrating his skill and versatility. Nevertheless, recent challenges, such as a crash-filled 27th-place finish at Daytona and a late setback at Darlington, have sparked discussions about his current form.

Despite these difficulties, the 32-year-old Larson remains forward-focused, unveiling plans to revisit the racing roots of emerging Xfinity talent Shane Van Gisbergen. His drive to overcome setbacks reflects his ongoing commitment to the sport.

Kyle Larson’s Racing Legacy

Larson’s influence extends far beyond NASCAR. His passion for racing has garnered respect across multiple disciplines. With 27 NASCAR Cup Series victories under his belt, Larson has also shone in dirt track racing, securing triumphs at esteemed events such as the Chili Bowl Nationals and the Knoxville Nationals. Recently, he made a significant impact in IndyCar by participating in the Indianapolis 500 with Arrow McLaren and earning Rookie of the Year honors.

Larson’s aspirations reach beyond his current achievements. In a recent conversation on ‘The Teardown’ by Dale Jr.’s Dirty Mo Media, he shared his racing bucket list. “I feel like I’ve gotten the chance to race a lot of different things,” Larson remarked. “I’m going to Australia this winter to race for a weekend in Perth. It’s something I’ve wanted to do. It might not be major news, but I’m looking forward to it. It’s been a long time since I competed in the Rolex 24-hour race, but perhaps in a few more years, I’d like to give it another shot.”

Larson is scheduled to race at the Perth Motorplex from December 28-30, 2024, for the High Limit International event. This race will feature top Australian sprint car drivers competing for a record $100,000 prize, the largest ever in Australian sprint car history.

As Larson gears up for his Australian venture, he joins a distinguished group of NASCAR stars who have competed in Australia. His future plans also include a potential return to the Rolex 24-hour race, which he last raced in back in 2016. Larson’s reputation for versatility continues to make waves internationally, while he remains deeply engaged with the vibrant stock car culture in Australia.

Australian Racers Making Waves in NASCAR

While Kyle Larson prepares for his Australian racing stint, Australian drivers are also making their mark in NASCAR. Shane Van Gisbergen, although originally from New Zealand, is arguably the most influential racer from the region currently active in NASCAR. After a successful career in karting, Formula First, and Formula Ford in New Zealand, Van Gisbergen took his racing to new heights at the age of 17 by joining V8 Supercars in Australia. His move to this NASCAR-like format proved pivotal, as he clinched the V8 Championship three times in 2016, 2021, and 2022, establishing himself as one of the most successful drivers in the series’ history.

Another notable Australian racer is Marcos Ambrose, who also made a significant impact. Ambrose won the V8 Supercars championship twice, in 2003 and 2004, and secured 28 career wins in the V8 Championship. He later transitioned to NASCAR in the United States, where he achieved two wins in the Cup Series during 2011 and 2012. Additionally, Ambrose had an impressive run in the Xfinity Series with five career wins, all of which were achieved at the Watkins Glen International Speedway.
