Kyle Larson wrapped up 2023 with a triumphant win at the High Limit Racing finale at Perth Motorplex, earning a historic $100,000 prize. Although he did not secure the 2024 NASCAR championship, Larson, 32, made history by collecting the largest paycheck in Australian Sprint Car history. The race was part of the Kubota High Limit Racing series, which Larson co-owns with Brad Sweet, a five-time World of Outlaws champion. The team ventured to Western Australia for a weekend featuring a 410 winged sprint car series.
In the three-day event, Larson capitalized on a significant win after two nights of trailing James McFadden. The victory marked his first-ever win in Australia, setting a milestone in the country’s speedway history. The announcement on social media read, “Larson makes Australian history! @KyleLarsonRacin’s first-ever win on Australian soil comes in the richest race in Australian Speedway history at @PerthMotorplex! He tops @JamesMcFadden for $100,000!”
The racing community widely praised Larson’s performance. Fans expressed admiration for his achievement on social media, with one user commenting, “No shock, guys a legend in the making,” while another simply wrote, “GOAT!!!” Others were hopeful that the Perth Motorplex would be part of the High Limit Racing calendar again, with one fan writing, “Terrific racing. Hoping Perth is back on the calendar next year as well.” Another user expressed excitement, stating, “What a race! Facility looked impressive. You can’t tell me that @HighLimitRacing isn’t great for racing. Larson is a Godsend for racing.”
High Limit Racing hosted its first international event in Perth during the three-day race series, which took place from December 28-30. The series not only set the record for the highest-paying sprint car race in Australian history but also highlighted the growth of the sport. Larson and Sweet have been vocal about their commitment to expanding the series’ reach. Larson previously emphasized the importance of substantial purses in boosting competition and increasing the sport’s visibility. During an interview at Epartrade Race Industry Week, Larson said, “It’s important to advertise what we’re paying out… You have to have the money to do it, and crowds play a big part in that.”
Looking ahead, High Limit Racing will kick off its next season at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway from March 13-15.
