UFC champ Alex Pereira wants to be part of Dana White’s venture into boxing

UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has expressed excitement over Dana White’s recent declaration about getting involved in the world of boxing. After years of hinting at a possible move into the sport, White has made his most definitive statement yet, confirming his serious intent to venture into boxing. While the UFC president has clarified that his plan doesn’t involve UFC fighters transitioning into boxing, Pereira believes he might be the first to break that mold.

Pereira (11-2 MMA, 8-1 UFC), who previously dominated in kickboxing as a two-division Glory Kickboxing champion, has a brief professional boxing background. His single boxing bout took place in June 2017, where he secured a third-round TKO against Marcelo de Souza Cruz. Despite his limited experience in boxing, Pereira is confident about his potential in the sport and is eager to take advantage of any opportunity that arises from White’s latest venture.

“Honestly, I feel really good about this,” Pereira shared in an interview with Kevin Iole, speaking through an interpreter. “Boxing is something I’ve always had an interest in. For quite some time, I’ve wanted to fight professionally in boxing. In fact, in the next few days, I’m planning to release footage of me sparring with Brazil’s top heavyweight boxer. The video is from a few years ago, but since then, my skills have significantly improved.”

Although Dana White hasn’t discussed any concrete plans for UFC fighters moving into boxing, Pereira remains optimistic about the potential partnership. “Dana made the announcement, and while nothing has been discussed with me directly or with the UFC, I have a feeling that if this crossover happens, it will start with me,” Pereira added confidently.

As Pereira looks ahead to the future, his focus remains on his current career in mixed martial arts. The Brazilian fighter is preparing to defend his light heavyweight title for the third time when he faces Khalil Rountree (14-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) at UFC 307. The event, taking place at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, promises to be an intense battle as Pereira aims to further solidify his reign as champion.

Pereira’s enthusiasm for boxing doesn’t come as a surprise, given his extensive background in striking sports. As a former kickboxing champion, Pereira has built a reputation for his powerful striking and technical precision, traits that could serve him well in the boxing ring. His transition to MMA has been nothing short of impressive, and now, with his sights set on boxing, Pereira could become a pioneer among UFC fighters by competing in both sports.

Although the details of Dana White’s foray into boxing remain unclear, Pereira’s interest in being part of it is evident. He sees this as a unique opportunity to showcase his skills on a different platform, and given his history of success in combat sports, it wouldn’t be surprising if Pereira became a prominent figure in White’s boxing venture.

For now, however, Pereira’s focus is firmly on his upcoming title defense at UFC 307. With Khalil Rountree standing in his way, Pereira is determined to retain his belt and continue his dominant run in the UFC. Still, the prospect of stepping into a boxing ring remains a tantalizing possibility for the Brazilian fighter, and fans will be watching closely to see how his journey unfolds.
