“No, He Didn’t!” – Adrian Newey’s Wife Stands Up Against Allegations of Disrespecting Lewis Hamilton

Amanda Newey, the wife of renowned engineer Adrian Newey, has refuted a fan’s assertion that her husband disrespected Lewis Hamilton. This comes in the wake of Adrian’s recent transition to Aston Martin as a managing technical partner.
After announcing his exit from Red Bull, the reigning world champions, earlier this year, Newey has officially joined Aston Martin, following a flurry of speculation about his next move. The aerodynamic expert is set to begin his role with the Silverstone-based team in 2025, concluding a remarkable 19-year tenure with the Austrian team.

Shortly after Aston Martin’s announcement, the High-Performance Podcast YouTube channel featured an interview with Adrian Newey, where he discussed his career shift and his experiences at Red Bull. He also reflected on the fierce title battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton during the 2021 F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, noting the impact of that defeat on Mercedes and Hamilton at the time.

Newey remarked, “I can’t go back into the factory all miserable and downbeat. Part of my position I suppose is to help motivate everybody not just saying ‘oh it’s so unfair and we robbed’ and all that doesn’t help does it” (at 1:16:29).

Afterward, a fan took to X to express their belief that Newey showed disrespect towards Hamilton during the podcast.
“It’s unfortunate he disrespected Lewis with his remarks to Jake Humphries,” the fan commented.

In reply, Amanda Newey defended her husband, asserting that he holds Hamilton in high regard.

“That’s not true. He has immense respect for Lewis,” Amanda Newey stated.

Historically, Adrian Newey has lauded Lewis Hamilton for his accomplishments in Formula 1 and has previously expressed a desire to collaborate with the British racer.

Adrian Newey’s aspirations to work with Lewis Hamilton

Even after his commitment to Aston Martin, Adrian Newey shared his wish to partner with Lewis Hamilton in his F1 journey.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Newey mentioned that after deciding to remain in F1 following Red Bull’s exit announcement, Ferrari—where Hamilton is set to join in 2025—was among the teams he considered.

He noted that he has been open about his desire to work with both Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.

“After a few months, I realized I wanted to stay in Formula 1, and Ferrari was one of the options. I’ve been clear about wanting to work with Fernando and Lewis. Since they are on different teams, I couldn’t make that happen,” Newey explained.

Starting in 2025, Newey will team up with two-time world champion Alonso at Aston Martin.
