Kyle Larson has kicked off the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season on a high note, collecting three top-five finishes in the first six races. His most recent highlight came on Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, where he secured his first victory of the year. Larson made a late-race pass on Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman to take the checkered flag at the 1.5-mile track.
On Wednesday, the 2021 Cup Series champion joined veteran broadcaster Dave Moody on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio to discuss his eventful weekend in Florida. Larson had a busy schedule, competing in three different races. He claimed a win in Friday night’s Truck Series event, narrowly missed out on victory in Saturday’s Xfinity Series race despite leading much of the event, and wrapped it all up with his Cup Series win on Sunday.
Moody shifted the conversation to the upcoming race at Martinsville Speedway, pointing out that it hasn’t been Larson’s strongest track based on past results. “Hasn’t been your best racetrack lately, at least by the numbers, by the finishing positions. How do we change all that this weekend?” Moody asked.
Larson quickly countered the notion. “I don’t know what numbers you’re looking at,” he replied. “But it’s probably our best track, honestly. We’ve won. We’ve finished second multiple times. I think we finished third there in the fall.”
Despite feeling uncomfortable at Martinsville, Larson noted that he consistently posts strong finishes at the short half-mile track known as “The Paper Clip.” “Surprisingly, it’s probably statistically our best track. Which it feels like my worst track. When I go there I actually feel lost. But we somehow finish really well there and score a lot of points,” he said.
Backing up Larson’s claim, his last five appearances at Martinsville have produced impressive results: a win, two second-place finishes, a third, and a sixth-place finish. While the track might feel like a challenge from behind the wheel, the No. 5 team has managed to consistently deliver.
Race fans can catch the Cup Series action from Martinsville beginning at 3 p.m. ET on FS1.
