Jerry Jones Fires Back: Criticizes Dak Prescott’s Performance in Relation to His Paycheck

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones did not hold back during a recent interview on 105.3 The Fan, where he shared his candid thoughts about quarterback Dak Prescott. As the Cowboys navigate a challenging season, currently sitting at 3-3, frustration is mounting within the organization, and Jones made it clear that Prescott’s performance hasn’t matched his hefty paycheck.

Jones expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s recent performance, particularly their crushing 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions. While acknowledging that Prescott needs better support on the field, Jones emphasized that as the highest-paid player in the NFL, Prescott should be delivering more.

“We shouldn’t have a game like that with the players we’ve got,” Jones said. “When you have the highest-paid quarterback, you expect more production, though he needs better blocking and the routes need to be run correctly.”

While Jones gave some credit to Detroit for their strong play, his message was clear—Prescott’s paycheck demands more accountability. The Cowboys owner’s remarks suggest a growing impatience with the lack of results from a player who is being paid to be a top-tier performer.

In addition to his comments on Prescott, Jones didn’t shy away from challenging the radio hosts during the interview. When pressed about the Cowboys’ quiet offseason, Jones grew visibly irritated, questioning the hosts’ ability to critique his decisions. “This isn’t your job,” Jones snapped. “You’re not going to figure out what’s right or wrong with the team. If you think you can, you should join the NFL meetings with all 32 teams—you’re geniuses.”

His frustration didn’t stop there. He added that while criticism is easy, acknowledging what’s working well is often overlooked. “We’re talking to a lot of great fans and listeners, and I’m truly sorry for what happened Sunday. I’m sick about it,” Jones admitted, signaling just how deeply the loss stung.

Ultimately, Jones’ interview revealed both his passion for the team and his high expectations for Prescott, making it clear that change is needed if the Cowboys are to turn their season around.
