According to 9News’ Janet Oravetz, Denver Broncos wide receiver and former Detroit Lions player Josh Reynolds was injured in a shooting early Friday morning in Denver. The incident occurred after Reynolds and another man were reportedly followed from a strip club.
The shooting took place shortly after 3 a.m. on October 18, near East Hampden Avenue and South Dahlia Street. It began when a 911 caller, driving a blue Ford Bronco, reported they had been shot. The caller soon stopped responding, suggesting they were trying to escape. Two more 911 calls followed, one identifying Reynolds as a victim.
Court records reveal that Reynolds was struck by gunfire twice—once in the left arm and once at the back of his head. Another man in the group was shot in the back, while a third person suffered injuries from shattered glass. All three sustained scrapes from climbing a fence in their effort to escape.
The group had been at Shotgun Willies, a strip club in Glendale, and left around 2:45 a.m. After noticing two cars following them, they came under fire. The suspects pursued Reynolds and his group onto the highway, where their vehicle became disabled, forcing them to flee on foot.
Denver police later arrested two men, Burr Charlesworth and Luis Mendoza, in connection with the shooting. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Mendoza following Reynolds’ group as they left the club.
Reynolds, who was already on injured reserve with a finger injury, did not travel with the Broncos to New Orleans. There have been no updates on his condition following the shooting. Although the incident was serious, especially given Reynolds’ NFL status, there were no fatalities, and the suspects are now in custody.
