Deshaun Watson’s QB Coach Criticizes Nick Bosa as a ‘Weak Dude’ Following MAGA Gesture on Sunday Night Football

Nick Bosa and Deshaun Watson sparked a stir on Sunday night, mixing sports with politics in a way few expected. After the 49ers-Cowboys game, Bosa, the San Francisco 49ers star, made a subtle but unmistakable statement.

Rather than the classic red “Make America Great Again” cap, he wore a white hat with yellow letters that appeared to convey the same message. For many fans, it was a clear nod to former President Donald Trump, adding fuel to the ongoing debate over political endorsements in the NFL.

Deshaun Watson’s quarterback coach, Quincy Avery, didn’t let it slide. He jumped on Twitter/X as Bosa’s hat went viral, slamming the move and labeling Bosa as a “weak dude” for what he saw as a veiled political stunt.

Avery’s take was blunt: if Bosa wanted to make a statement, he should have done it openly, in front of the cameras, instead of letting a hat do the talking. “You can do what you want, but if you’re making a statement, do it with a microphone in front of you,” Avery tweeted, challenging Bosa to stand by his views publicly.

When asked about the hat at his postgame press conference, Bosa didn’t say much, responding with a simple, “I’m not gonna talk too much about it, but I think it’s an important time.” His response left the door open for speculation, adding another layer to the story and keeping fans talking.

This latest incident isn’t the first sign of NFL players stepping into the political arena. In fact, Bosa joins a list of big names who have openly shown support for Trump as the 2024 election heats up.

Former players like Brett Favre, as well as Le’Veon Bell, have voiced support, each in their own way. Even Raheem Mostert’s wife, Devon Mostert, recently shared her reasons for backing Trump, saying it’s about protecting her kids’ future, even if it stirs up backlash.

With the election just around the corner, the NFL is becoming as much about politics as it is about touchdowns. As November 5th nears, all eyes are on these prominent players and their endorsements.

Whether these voices of support for Trump will find reason to celebrate or will face further scrutiny, one thing’s for sure: the impact of their stance will be felt long after the election. And as always in sports and politics, the conversations will only get louder.
