NASCAR Cup Series driver Joey Logano was seen venting his frustration on pit road after Austin Dillon from RCR played a pivotal role in determining the outcome of his race. Recently, Fox Sports journalist Bob Pockrass suggested that Logano might face a penalty for his aggressive behavior on pit road, following comments from NASCAR VP Elton Sawyer regarding the incident.
Logano drives the #22 Ford for Team Penske and began the Cook Out 400 in ninth place, eventually taking the lead. As the race entered overtime, Dillon made contact with the back of Logano’s car, sending it crashing into the safety barriers just before the finish line.
After the race, Logano was visibly upset about the situation and drove erratically on pit road, where others were trying to cross. He was heard revving his engine, which caught the attention of a NASCAR official who intervened to prevent him from proceeding.
In a recent chat with Bob Pockrass, NASCAR’s VP of Competition, Elton Sawyer, shared his insights on a recent incident. Sawyer stated:
“We want to avoid making a hasty decision that could lead to mistakes. Therefore, we will thoroughly review everything that transpired during the final lap and after the race to determine if any penalties are warranted.”
Pockrass speculated about a potential penalty for Logano on X (formerly Twitter), noting:
“I would anticipate a fine for Logano due to the tire smoke on pit road caused by others. As mentioned on Sunday, Elton Sawyer indicated they would investigate this matter.”
“Such recklessness cannot be tolerated,” remarked Bubba Wallace’s spotter, who criticized Joey Logano’s aggressive driving on pit road amid the Richmond incident.
Freddie Kraft, who serves as the spotter for NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, recently took to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his concerns regarding what he perceived as reckless behavior exhibited by fellow driver Joey Logano on pit road during the tense final moments of the Cook Out 400 race. Logano, who had been in a strong position and appeared to be on the verge of clinching victory at Richmond Raceway, found his chances dashed when Austin Dillon made contact with the rear of his car, leading to a series of events that would ultimately alter the outcome of the race.
In his post, Kraft highlighted the dangerous situation that unfolded on pit road, suggesting that the layout and design of Victory Lane should be reconsidered. He stated, “Move Victory Lane back where it belongs so fewer people will attempt to cross pit road. However, that doesn’t excuse the recklessness we witnessed.” This comment underscores the need for safety measures in the high-stakes environment of NASCAR, where split-second decisions can have significant consequences.
Despite Logano’s earlier strong performance, the incident on pit road proved detrimental, and he ultimately crossed the finish line in a disappointing 19th place. In stark contrast, Austin Dillon emerged victorious, celebrating his fifth career Cup Series win and securing a coveted spot in the upcoming Playoffs. Dillon’s triumph not only marked a significant achievement in his racing career but also highlighted the unpredictable nature of NASCAR, where fortunes can change rapidly in the heat of competition.
